Throughout October constituents continued to come to my regular surgery for help with their specific issues. A breakdown of the details of the most common cases can be found by clicking on the pie chart below.
Issues brought to my surgery included….
A constituent contacted me about establishing a ‘Walking Football Club’, a fun way for older players to get fit. It is very hard to gain funding for such worthwhile projects these days as local government’s budgets are severely stretched. However, I made enquiries into the matter and helped him move this project forward with free use of facilities, support in establish
ing a Walking Football league, and assistance in fundraising activities.
I was contacted by a constituent regarding the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. My constituent had been offered work with two companies subject to a satisfactory criminal records check. He was very concerned that he faced the probability of losing these job offers. Following my intervention on his behalf, one day later the applications were completed and his DBS certificates despatched to him.
A constituent of mine requested the tenancy of her deceased son’s property in order to allow her to care for her 11-year-old grandson who suffered from autism. Due to the exceptional circumstances of the request, I moved the matter forward to enable her grandson to succeed the secure tenancy until the child reaches the age of 18 years. My constituent ‘phoned to say “A big thank you”.
A constituent complained about Avanta, the welfare to work and training provider. She was concerned that Avanta was not taking into account her significant health problems. My constituent felt desperate and anxious. I wrote a letter of support for her appeal against the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), following which she won her appeal. She is now looking forward to regaining her health and returning back to work when she is able. She wrote: “Thank you so Much Emma for your support when it was needed. It was very much appreciated.”
