Emma calls debate on Metro performance

June 29, 2015

Emma Lewell-Buck 19smallEmma has called a debate in Parliament so that MPs can discuss the performance of the Tyne and Wear Metro.

The debate, which will be held in Westminster Hall on Wednesday 1 July at 4.30pm, will require a Government minister to respond to MPs’ concerns about unreliable services and a lack of investment in the Metro.

The Metro has underperformed over the last couple of years. Last winter more than one in three trains were delayed, and over 796 journeys were cancelled between October and December alone. Constituents have also written to Emma to complain about broken ticket machines and poor customer service.

Emma has previously raised these complaints with Metro bosses, and in a written question to the Transport Secretary. Now she wants to bring ministers face to face with the issues.

Emma is asking constituents who have experienced poor service to get in touch and share their stories. If you would like to contact Emma, you can email her at emma.lewell-buck.mp@parliament.uk.

Emma said:

“Passengers have every right to feel frustrated at the continuing disruption on our Metro. People rely on public transport to get to work on time, to get their kids to school and to make it to important appointments, it is unacceptable that they are let down so often.

“I will keep raising these issues with Nexus, but I also think it’s important that this issue is put on the Government’s agenda, and that they are held to account for failure to invest in our Metro. I’m pleased to have secured this debate to press ministers for action.”
