130623 Keep East Coast on Track smallLast Friday Emma was one of a group of Labour MPs from the North East who came together at Newcastle Central Station to speak up against the Government’s plans to re-privatise the East Coast Main Line.

The campaign, Keep East Coast on Track, is supported by Labour MPs up and down the country, and last week they argued for keeping the franchise publicly owned in a debate in the House of Commons.

On Friday, Labour MPs and members campaigned at stations from London King’s Cross to Newcastle and beyond to save the franchise, which has delivered over £800m for taxpayers while delivering the highest levels of customer satisfaction ever recorded.

“I’m proud to be here supporting East Coast and defending the East Coast Main Line from the Government’s misguided plans, which are bad for our railway and bad for the taxpayer.”

“We have already seen the West Coast bidding process collapse on this Government’s watch, at a cost of £55million to the taxpayer. Now they want to shut down an operator which delivers investment for our railway and replace it with one that would put that money straight into the pockets of shareholders.”
