Earlier this week the National Association of Independent Reviewing Officers (NARIO) welcomed Emma Lewell-Buck MP as a valued addition to their list of patrons, joining other high profile patrons such as; Sir Vince cable MP, The Earl of Listowel and June Thoburn CBE.
Following her appointment Emma said “I am delighted that NARIO have asked me to become a patron. Having worked for many years as a Child Protection Social Worker, I know all too well the vital work carried out Independent Reviewing Officers. They are empowered to act on a child’s behalf in challenging the local authority and are often a voice for the voiceless. I look forward to working closely with NAIRO and doing all I can to ensure vulnerable and looked after children are given the best possible support”
The NARIO is a registered charity that represents Independent Reviewing Officers (IRO) in their role in ensuring that care plans for children in care are legally compliant and in the child’s best interest. IROs do vital work in ensuring that looked after and vulnerable children’s needs are adequately met.
Upon welcoming Emma as their latest patron, Jon Fayle Co-Chair of NAIRO said “We at NAIRO are delighted to welcome Emma to our list of impressive patrons. Emma’s wealth of experience in the sector, first as a Child Protection Social Worker and also as a former Shadow Minister for Children and Families will be vital in supporting Independent Reviewing Officers and will help us to ensure vulnerable children and looked after children will get the best support available.”
