Emma today met with Vista, a local group for blind and partially sighted people that meets every other Monday afternoon.
Emma spoke to the group about how she became involved in politics, the work she has done since being elected and her future plans for the constituency. There followed a lively debate covering a number of topics about the economy, the high street, unemployment and services for the blind and partially sighted.
Emma said:
‘Hearing first hand from people how much they are suffering as a result of the Coalition cuts and the removal of services they once relied on is always deeply sad. Luckily in Shields we have a strong community base and it is groups like Vista that are vital in ensuring people with disabilities do not feel isolated in our communities. I wish them all every success in the future.”
