Emma Lewell-Buck, Labour’s candidate for South Shields has pledged to hold a ‘South Shields Saturday’ to showcase everything the town has to offer, encourage local people to spend money in the town centre and attract visitors.
If elected she will work together with local businesses, attractions and the Council to hold an annual event to highlight the town’s array of independent shops, excellent cafes and famous restaurants.
Emma Lewell-Buck, Labour’s candidate for South Shields, said:
“South Shields is a great place. I’m so proud of this town and I am passionate about its future.
“However I know we need to redevelop parts of the town and encourage more investment. People need to know that South Shields is open for business. This needs to be a place where residents spend their money and visitors come all year round.
“‘South Shields Saturday’ will be a special day to showcase all of the brilliant things Shields has to offer, our independent shops and cafes, tourist attractions, leisure facilities and Ocean Road’s famous restaurants.
“We need to attract more visitors into the town centre but we also have to make sure local residents are encouraged to spend their money here in Shields. If elected, this is one of the projects I’ll drive forward.”
