Emma Lewell-Buck 09 smallEmma Lewell-Buck, Labour’s candidate for South Shields, has today promised to “lead by example” and take on an Apprentice in her office if she is elected on Thursday.

Emma was joined by Ed Balls MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor on a visit to Port of Tyne today where they met with Apprentices working in Engineering and Business Administration.

Emma and Ed met with the Port’s management to hear about their work and their plans for the future.

Announcing her apprentice plans, Emma Lewell-Buck, Labour’s By-election candidate for South Shields, said:

“As you can clearly see at places like Port of Tyne, Apprenticeships can make all the difference to young people’s confidence and career opportunities.

“With the job market so uncertain and so many people looking for work here in South Shields, high quality vocational training has never been so important.

“As MP, I would lead by example and employ an Apprentice in my own office.

“One Nation Labour is about making sure that the best opportunities are available to all of our young people. That’s why we would give employers powers to help them take on Apprentices and support businesses like Port of Tyne who are expanding their Apprenticeship programmes.”
