Emma Lewell-Buck is urging any constituents with housing worries to contact Shelter for free advice on finding accommodation or finding ways to pay the bills.

Shelter’s website offers free advice for those experiencing housing difficulties, whether they are homeowners or tenants in the social or private sector.  Shelter’s surveys show that one in eleven people fear that they won’t be able to afford to pay their rent or mortgage at the end of the month, but many of those do not seek help because of stress or stigma.

Constituents who would like to speak to an adviser directly can call Shelter’s free helpline on 0808 800 4444.

Emma said:

“Too many of my constituents are having sleepless nights because they are worried about how they are going to afford their rent at the end of the month. The cost of living crisis, combined with cruel Coalition measures like the Bedroom Tax that cost over 1,400 households in my constituency more than £8 per week, means that increasing numbers of people are at risk of losing their homes.

“The financial pressure caused by the cost of living crisis can be extremely stressful for households, so I want to encourage people in my constituency who are worried about their situation to contact Shelter so they do not have to face these pressures alone. People in South Shields who need housing advice should call 0808 800 4444 or visit. www.shelter.org.uk/get_advice.

“My office can also help constituents with their housing queries, and can be contacted on 0191 427 1240 or at emma.lewell-buck.mp@parliament.uk.”
