Emma “Wears It Pink” for Breast Cancer Campaign

September 11, 2013

Houses of ParliamentSouth Shields MP Emma Lewell-Buck met with campaigners from Breast Cancer Campaign at the Houses of Parliament to lend her support to their Wear It Pink campaign, which helps to raise money for breast cancer research. Each year people across the UK take part in Wear It Pink day, and last year over £2.1 million was collected to fight the illness. This year’s Wear It Pink day takes part on Friday 25 October, and Breast Cancer Campaign hopes it will be even more successful.

The charity encourages schools and workplaces to hold pink-themed events, and to wear pink clothes or accessories while donating £2 towards funding ground-breaking research to help fight breast cancer. The cancer is the most common kind, with 12,000 killed and 50,000 more diagnosed each year. Detection and treatment are improving, but funding is still urgently needed.

Emma said:

“Breast cancer still claims the lives of thousands of women each year, and although new medical advances are helping to bring that number down there is still a long way to go. Breast Cancer Research do a great job reaching schools and workplaces through the Wear It Pink campaign, and I want to help them spread the word so that people in South Shields can make a contribution to the cause.”
