Meeting with Dyspraxia Foundation

September 10, 2013

Emma Lewell-Buck 09 smallOn Tuesday Emma met with representatives from the Dyspraxia Foundation at the House of Commons. The Foundation, which was established in 1987, works to raise public awareness of the condition and seek recognition for dyspraxics so they can get the support and services they need. The Foundation also produces guidelines for schools and workplaces.

Next month the Foundation will hold its Dyspraxia Awareness Week, which this year focuses on primary school aged children (ages 4-11). Running from 14-20 October, the Foundation will focus on raising teacher and parent awareness of the condition, which affects an average of two children in every classroom. Emma has been invited to speak at the Week’s launch event.

Emma said:

“I was very pleased to learn about the work the Dyspraxia Foundation is doing to help raise awareness about this condition. Dyspraxia can be difficult to detect and can often remain hidden, and lack of understanding means it is too often ignored altogether.

“As a dyspraxic myself, I am keen to do whatever I can to help, and I look forward to working with the Foundation during my time as an MP.”
