South Shields’ own Port of Tyne has been shortlisted for an award celebrating responsible businesses.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Corporate Responsibility has selected the port as one of its ten finalists, after Emma put them forward as the Responsible Business Champion for South Shields. The winner of the award will be announced later this year.
The Port was chosen for the positive impact it has made across the community in South Shields, including its support for local businesses and events, its apprenticeship programme for local young people at its work preserving the local environment.
The Port has its own Community Action Fund, which last year donated over £119,000 to hundreds of local community organisations.
Already this year the Port has been named winner of the Northumberland and Tyneside ‘Heart of the Community’ Award.
Emma said:
“I’m thrilled that the APPG has recognised the excellent work Port of Tyne does across our whole community. The port is living proof that business is at its best when it is a partner in the community, and I think it sets a tremendous example for others to follow.
“I will be giving Port of Tyne my full support when the national Responsible Business Champion is decided later this year.”
