Emma continues to receive hundreds of emails each month requesting help with local issues, or asking her to raise matters in Parliament. A breakdown of the most popular issues can be found below. The most popular categories in September were: Asylum, Immigration and Nationality;
Emma also continues to support constituents who have had difficulties with public or local services. Two examples of cases that have come in within the last month can be found below.
A constituent contacted Emma asking whether a new post box could be installed on the estate that they live on. The nearest post box was several miles away and the constituent had to post letters in South Shields town centre. Emma wrote to The Chief Executive of Royal Mail Group and asked if a new post box could be installed given the demand and the problems facing constituents in posting their mail. Within a week of the letter being sent a new post box had been installed on the estate.
A constituent contacted Emma saying they were living in rented accommodation with their young family and their boiler had broken. This had left the family with no heating or hot water for a number of weeks. Despite repairs to the boiler, the problem was still recurring and the family were suffering because of this. Emma wrote to the landlord and a new boiler was installed immediately at the property.
