Emma has announced that she will be taking part in this year’s Great North Run on behalf of the local carers’ charity Just-ICE, together with her husband Simon.
Just-ICE (Independent Carers Enterprise) supports the family and friends of people who care for adults with mental health issues in South Tyneside. They help carers look after not only the people they care for, but their own wellbeing as well. The charity offers individual and group support, helps carers navigate and access services, and provide information and educational activities.
Emma became the patron of Just-ICE last year, and decided to run on the charity’s behalf in the Great North Run to help them fund their services.
Emma has started a fundraising page where constituents can sponsor her in this year’s race. If you would like to donate and support Just-ICE, you can do so by clicking here.
This will be the second year in a row that Emma and Simon have taken part in the Great North Run together. Last year Emma raised hundreds of pounds for the local charity Arts4Wellbeing.
Emma said:
“I’m so proud to have great charities like Just-ICE in my constituency, and I want to do everything I can to help them go from strength to strength. That’s why I will be donating every penny I raise as part of the Great North Run to this fantastic organisation.
“Shields does an amazing job hosting the finale of the Great North Run every year, and it’s an amazing experience having such great supporters cheering you on. With so many local people taking part and supporting great causes, it shows our town at its very best.”
The Great North Run is the second largest half marathon in the world, with over 57,000 people taking part in 2014. Over a million people have taken part since the first race in 1981.
South Shields plays host to the finishing stages of the race, with the final stretch taking runners along the Leas.
