Last week, as part of my role on the Defence Select Committee, I travelled to Washington D.C. for meetings with our allies in the United States.
The Committee held meetings on behalf of the UK with elements of the US Armed Forces Command, embassy staff, industry representatives and Senators. We then travelled to the US Army training academy at West Point, meeting some incredible cadets and receiving a roaring welcome that I will never forget as long as I live.
The meetings allowed us to discuss shared strategy on Ukraine, procurement of materials for our shared security, potential new threats to that security, and the treatment of veterans after they leave service.
The commitment from both the UK and the USA to democracy and security remain strong, and the special relationship between our two nations especially so.
